Historic Amount Raised Includes Donations From More than 58,000 Donors Averaging Just $17 Per Donation
Hollywood, FL-- The Tim Canova for Congress campaign announced today that it has raised more than $2 million in contributions in little more than five months of campaigning. The staggering amount likely breaks records for amount raised online by a challenger in a House race, particularly by a first-time candidate.
The campaign has received more than 115,000 individual contributions from more than 58,000 donors, with an average donation size of only $17.16.
Said Canova, “People all over Florida and all over our district are supporting our campaign for change. They have had enough of a political system that is awash in corporate money and corporate influence. We all have an interest in a decent jobs market, affordable prescription drug prices and health care, educational opportunities, and safe and healthy communities. Wasserman Schultz’s corporate donors are often standing in the way of progress for all.”
Fundraising numbers of note:
Total Raised: $2,054,332.57
116,102 individual contributions
58,421 individual donors
$17.16 average contribution
98% of donors have given less than $4,200.
Only 17 donors have given the federally allowable maximum, which means that 99.99% of Canova donors can contribute again
Canova, who has spent years advocating for campaign finance reform and fairness in our economic system, has been endorsed by National Nurses United and the Communications Workers of America, as well as Progressive Democrats of America. He is a Professor of Law and Public Finance at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.
