Hollywood, FL – Tim Canova, the Nova Southeastern University law professor and Democratic primary challenger to Debbie Wasserman Schultz for Florida's 23rd U.S. Congressional District, continues to post impressive fundraising totals as the August 30 primary date quickly approaches. Canova’s campaign reports that it raised $525,000 from over thirty thousand individual contributions in the month of July alone. Since he announced his candidacy in early January, Canova’s campaign has raised over $2.8 million in small donor contributions -- more than 163,000 individual contributions from more than 68,000 donors, with an average donation size of less than $17.  Along the way, Canova has broken many records for online fundraising for a House candidate, while also refusing to accept contributions from any corporate interest, including corporate PACs and SuperPACs.

Also impressive, $261,000 of that sum was collected after July 24 when Wasserman Schultz announced her resignation as the Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). She was forced to resign by Democratic Party leaders after the whistleblower organizations Wikileaks publicly released more than 19,000 emails detailing how she and other members of DNC’s leadership worked to undermine the campaigns of both Canova and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, even though under its bylaws and charter, the DNC is required to remain impartial in its party’s presidential nomination contests.  Canova’s election lawyers are preparing a complaint to the Federal Election Commission for Wasserman Schultz’s use of party resources to monitor and attempt to crush his campaign, in apparent violation of federal law.

Tim Canova’s fundraising announcement comes on the heels of internal polling results released Sunday which indicate that the six-term incumbent Congresswoman holds only an eight point lead over her insurgent challenger with nearly 20% of voters still undecided. Canova will face off against the embattled congresswoman in the Democratic congressional primary on August 30.
