CANOVA: “THE ONLY OUTSIDERS IN THIS RACE ARE THE BIG CORPORATIONS FUNDING WASSERMAN SCHULTZ’S CAMPAIGN”

Hollywood, FL-- Today, in response to an attack from Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s campaign in which she accused congressional candidate Tim Canova of taking money from “outsiders” to fund his campaign, Canova put out the following statement:

“The only outsiders in this race are the big corporations and Washington lobbyists funding Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s campaign. Nearly two-thirds of Wasserman Schultz’s donations come from outside of Florida. She’s had 12 years in office to build support among Floridians, yet she still needs to rely on her Washington donors instead of her actual constituents,” said Canova.

By Wasserman Schultz’s own account, only 36 percent of her donations were from donors within Florida.

“My campaign has always been funded by the people. We don’t have the support of the lobbyists, corporate PACs, or any other Insiders. And we don’t want their support, because we have the support of hard-working Floridians. It’s up to our campaign and our supporters to make sure that Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz’s Washington Insider dollars are no match for our team of ‘Outsiders.’”

Wasserman Schultz received a majority of her donations from outside the state of Florida; Canova received more donations from inside the state of Florida than did Wasserman Schultz. Unlike Canova, who has refused to take PAC money, approximately one in five dollars funding Wasserman Schultz’s campaign is from PACs.
