Tim Canova, candidate in the Democratic primary for FL-23 challenging the incumbent Debbie Wasserman Schultz, will be the featured guest speaker at the Bands for Bernie campaign rally and fundraiser at Propaganda in downtown Lake Worth this Sunday, February 28.

Canova is the only invited guest speaker at a block party that will host 26 bands on 3 stages. With a diverse fill of bands that has been selected, from rock to classic rock and beyond, there will be something for everyone of every age. Canova will speak at 4 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm.

Canova, a law professor at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, jumped in as a candidate in Florida’s 23rd Congressional District seven weeks ago. His campaign has already received some 9000 individual contributions, making it the fastest growing Congressional campaign in the country.

Canova has already endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination. In 2011, Senator Sanders appointed him to a select advisory committee on reforming the Federal Reserve.

According to the Huffington Post, Canova’s insurgent primary challenge against Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) “could well reveal more about the Democratic party than any other contest in this cycle including the one for president….It’s a test of whether progressive ideas or corporate money are more central to the Democratic Party’s future.”

Canova’s campaign has refused to take money from corporations and their political action committees (PACs) and Super PACs. “Unlike my opponent,” Canova said, “I do not take money from private prisons, alcohol, and pharmaceutical companies. And unlike my opponent, I oppose the war of drugs, mass incarceration, and private prisons. And unlike my opponent, I support medical marijuana. The federal government should get out of the way and allow states and the voters to decide their own drug policies, particularly on whether to decriminalize or legalize marijuana.”

Canova has stressed a progressive agenda of fighting corruption in politics, rebuilding the nation’s aging infrastructure, addressing climate change, providing jobs and educational opportunities for all and forcing wealthy corporations to start paying their fair share in taxes.
